  • Social Networking for Children

    These sites are designed to allow children access to online communication while providing parents with lots of controls
    • Club Penguin
      very cute site that offers social networking, chat rooms and games for kids. It uses language filters to try and make conversations as clean as possible. It does not allow children to post private information.
    • Imbee
      Does a lot of the same things as MySpace but requires that parents approve friends before conversations can take place.
    • Webkinz.com
      A cute little stuffed animal that is purchased in your local toy store provides a code allowing access to the internet where children can care for their real/virtual pet, play games and learn how to operate in a virtual world.
    • Whyville.net
      Kids can enter this virtual world where nearly 2 million "citizens" help create a virtual economy. They can play games and chat, or visit city hall and museums. Free, but there is third-party advertising
  • E-mail for kids

    These sites offer easy to use, easy to monitor e-mail that can provide a good first step for young technology users.
    • Zoobuh.com
      lots of good parental controls including monitoring, activity logs and time monitoring.)
    • Kidmail.net
      inexpensive way to manage who sends your child e-mails. Has an interactive animated feature for younger children.)
    • Safe2read.com
      small monthly fee for software that lets you monitor the e-mails your child receives.)
